A Nation of Laws
[Ruled by the Lawless!]

June 20, 2016
[This column was not actually published until June 22nd]

In America we are supposed to be governed by the "Rule of Law" instead of the arbitrary decisions of politicians, bureaucrats and activist judges.  Wikipedia, referring to the rule of law, cited the Oxford English Dictionary, saying  "It primarily refers to the influence and authority of law within society, particularly as a constraint upon behavior, including behavior of government officials."

Republican President Richard Nixon resigned in shame for lying to the American Citizens.  But today deception from presidents seems to be a way of life (You can keep your doctor and your plan).

What happens when government officials don’t respect the rule of law (i.e., choosing what laws to enforce and those not to)?  We are left with lawlessness and deception. The Declaration of Independence says governments are only legal if they have the consent of the governed.  Governments that fail this test become powerful tyrants.

No man/woman can be above the law. Theodore Roosevelt said, “No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we ask him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor.”

The President’s administration sold legal guns to “straw buyers” allegedly to trace them back to Mexican drug cartel-buyers so they could be apprehended. The entire operation fell apart and an American Border Patrol agent was killed with one of these weapons.

Secretary of State Clinton ignored U.S. law and protocols with her clandestine private email server, exposing U.S. national security and allies.  Unbelievably those who support her seem to have unlimited excuses and explanations to justify her illegal actions.

Meanwhile, our President has endorsed her while there is an ongoing FBI investigation saying, "I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office.”

Did this administration really want to protect Ambassador Stevens? They sent an alleged gay Ambassador to a Muslim country and then ignored his pleas for more protection and security.

Thankfully we have checks and balances through a purposely divided government.  Or do we?  The House and Senate Republican leadership should have been providing a bulwark to protect the American people from this kabuki theater; instead they remained silent!

Then came the terrorist’s attacks at the Boston marathon, in San Bernardino, and now in Orlando.  Instead of focusing on identifying the terrorists before they can act, the Administration is completely content with trying to ban guns from law-abiding citizens.

The media and the President have called this the most deadly shooting in U.S. history.  They’re wrong!  That distinction belongs to the U.S. Government for ordering the killing of almost 300 men, women and children massacred at Wounded Knee.  Americans must never give up their Second Amendment Rights!  The only thing standing between freedom and slavery are free men and women who honor the rule of law, who know their rights, and are willing to stand up for them.  As the saying goes, “Come and Take it!”
