BIS Web Site Team

BIS's Web endeavors are truly a "Team Effort!" This "Team" includes people in the program areas who deal with content and those individuals who create the pages and post them on our various Web sites. Below you will find a listing of many of the "worker bees" who are directly responsible for how BIS presents itself on the World Wide Web.

Bill Sargent, BIS Web Master

Bill Sargent, BIS Web Master
Bill was on the original team that conceived, planned and implemented the launch of the BIS Web site in September 1996. Since then he has served as BIS Web Master and assisted in efforts to redesign the site in 2002-2003. Bill was awared the Department of Commerce's Bonze Medal Award on two occasions for his work on the BIS Web site. He has extensive knowledge in the areas of Web site usability and accessibility. In addition, for over three years he served as Chairman, then Vice Chairman, of the Department's Web Advisory Group which provides input and recommendations to the DOC CIO on matters related to the Department's presence on the Internet.



Marna Dove, Assistant Web Master

Marna Dove, Assistant BIS Web Master

Marna came to BIS in 1999 after spending three years at FedWorld where she managed parts of the IRS and Customs Web sites. She was on the original team that created the first BIS EmployeeNet, and currently serves as the Assistant BIS Web Master. In BIS, she is also responsible for numerous projects including Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC).

 

Alex Pena, Network Administrator and Assistant Web Master

Alex Pena, Database Applications

Alex is a network administrator and programmer by way of background. He is part of the original team that created the first BIS EmployeeNet, where he served as its primary Web developer. He has been responsible for creating many of the BIS Web applications found on our sites. This includes the Denied Persons and Defense Trade Resources applications on the main BIS site.

 



Christine Wheeler

Christine Wheeler, Seminar Schedule

Christine Wheeler is an Export Administration Specialist. For the past five years she has counseled exporters and assists them in complying with the Export Administration Regulations. She is also one of the instructors for the Outreach and Educational Services Division's seminar offerings. She is also responsible for creating and posting Web pages on BIS seminars in the Eastern region of the United States.





John Bushnell

John Bushnell, Seminar Schedule

John Bushnell is the Program Manager for Education and Outreach in OES's Western Regional Office (WRO). He works with co-sponsors and organizes the WRO seminar schedule as well as representing BIS at numerous defense and exporting industy conferences. In addition, John creates Web pages about the WRO seminar offerings and publishes them to the Web. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of California.





Ravan Austin

Raven Austin, EFOIA Web Site

Raven joined BIS in July 2002 and currently serves as the administrator for the EFOIA Web site. As such, she is responsible for ensuring that all documents posted are accessible to those with visual disabilities. In addition to her Web duties she also serves as a backup for the GAO and OIG liaison.







Julissa Hurtado

Julissa Hurtado, EFOIA Web Site

In July 2000, Julissa took on the responsibility of back-up administrator for the E-FOIA Web site. This was in addition to her main function as the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Management's (OPEM) liaison with GAO and OIG. Since she started doing Web work, Julissa spearheaded the effort to overhaul the E-FOIA Web site -- creating an internal navigation scheme to facilitate future uploads and make it easier for outside customers to access the information.




Alan Hellawell

Alan Hellawell, EFOIA Web Site [DECEASED]

Early in 2000, Alan took over administration of the EFOIA Web site from a contractor who had developed the site in accordance with the statutory requirement that agencies make FOIA information readily available by electronic means. Alan further automated several tasks associated with content management for the site and the upload process itself. Subsequently, he taught co-workers how to maintain the site and currently serves as its backup administrator.

Lee Ann Carpenter, TAC Web Site

The BIS TAC Web site was established in the late 1990's at the request of TAC members. In 1999 Lee Ann took over the responsibility for administering the site which has a number of directories that are restricted to TAC members only. She not only oversees the content on the site but also administers the userID and passwords for it as well.
